German President Vows Strong Support for N. Deal with Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in a message to his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani underscored Berlin’s firm support for the implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and further expansion of ties with Tehran in all fields.

“Our bilateral ties are being formed in a positive way and new arenas for cooperation in political, economic and cultural fields have been created,” Steinmeier said in his message to President Rouhani to congratulate the 39th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

“Germany will make its utmost efforts to safeguard the nuclear deal and wants all sides to try to materialize their undertakings,” he added.

Steinmeier also underscored the necessity for intensive talks between Iran, Germany and the European partners to resolve the regional crises and tensions.

In relevant remarks last September, German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Klor-Berchtold underlined that his country deems as highly-important expansion of mutual cooperation with Iran.

“Iran is an important country in the region and the world which has a special place in Germany’s foreign policy,” Klor-Berchtold said in a meeting with a group of Iranian lawmakers in Tehran.

The German ambassador also underlined the need to prepare the grounds for the visits by the two countries’ tourists.

Also, in October 2016, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with Germany’s Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office Michael Roth in Tehran lauded Berlin for its constructive role in the nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers in recent years.

“Germany could play an important role in addressing an array of issues,” Zarif said during the meeting.

The German minister, for his part, said that the nuclear deal between Iran and the major world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is of importance to Germany.

The German official also said that Germany is committed to establish peace and stability, and said, “We are interested to maintain cooperation with Iran.”

Roth underlined that Germany will continue holding high-profile talks with Iran.

The two officials discussed regional developments and the need for fostering regional cooperation and establishment of peace and stability.
