14 leading British companies tackle COVID-19 challenges in virtual BIF

4 June – The British Embassy organised the second virtual British Investors’ Forum (BIF) for the top British investors in Egypt to review progress in tackling COVID-19 challenges and share experiences on the measures taken to maintain their long-term investment plans.

The 14 BIF members represent a broad range of commercial sectors including healthcare, education, energy, banking and telecommunications. The companies discussed their post covid-19 transition plans; their corporate social responsibilities during the ongoing global crisis; and their future investment plans. The companies were also briefed on plans for COP26, due to be hosted in the UK in November 2021.

The British Ambassador in Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams, the UK’s Trade Envoy to Egypt Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, Official from the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones Mr Amr Nour El-Din, representatives from The Egyptian British Chamber Of Commerce and British Egyptian Business Association also attended the forum, plus a number of Embassy staff, including members of the Department of International Trade. The attending companies included: BP, Shell, Actis, Bombardier, GSK, IHG, PwC, Vodafone, AstraZeneca, Standard Chartered, Pearson, HSBC, Unilever, Bupa.

Sir Geoffrey Adams, said: “The BIF provides a platform for open dialogue between British companies and government representatives from Egypt and the UK, enabling them to work together to achieve their joint prosperity goals. The commitment of British companies to be part of this forum is a testament to their desire to overcome the challenge this pandemic presents and plan for future investments.’
