Egypt categorically rejected the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s statement on legal measures taken by the Egyptian authorities against one of the illegal Turkish electronic media committees in Egypt.

This committee worked under the cover of a company that has been established by elements of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood with the support of Turkey to spread false and fabricated information about the political, economic, security and legal conditions in Egypt, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said in a statement on Thursday.

It sent this information to Turkey in an attempt to tarnish the image of the country at the domestic and international levels, the statement said.

It added that all measures taken by the Egyptian authorities concerned in this regard are in accordance with laws and regulations in place to deal with such anomalies and extra-legal.

The spokesman also lashed out at the statement that is issued by a regime that holds an unenviable record as the world’s worst regime in the violation of freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of the press and other basic rights and fundamental freedoms. It also funded extremist groups and terrorist militias in a number of countries in the region in a desperate attempt by the Turkish regime to achieve its personal aspirations and special goals to evoke a past based on the illusion of false glories, according to the statement.

Turkey is the world’s worst jailer of journalists after a crackdown following the failed 2016 coup, adding Turkey ranked 157th among 180 countries in the 2019 World Press Freedom Index, the spokesman said.

From November 2018 till March 2109, the Turkish government cancelled 682 press cards as per relevant reports, the spokesman added.
