Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi reviewed with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail Egypt’s strategic commodities reserves ahead of Eidul Adha.

Speaking at a press conference at the Cabinet’s HQ, Moselhi said Cairo has a sugar reserve enough for more than six months, while cooking oil and frozen meat reserves are enough for about three months. He added that rice reserve is enough for 25 days.

Separately, Moselhi said the Supply Ministry finalized the process of updating the database of ration cards.

On that score, he indicated that Egypt provides subsidized bread for 79 million citizens, representing more than 85 percent of the total population. The minister also revealed that Egypt’s annual consumption of wheat is 16 million tons, of which nine million tons are allocated to bread production.
