Dr. Sohaylah Zane Alaabideen writes:

The Supreme Order issued by King Salman last Tuesday, with the adoption of the provisions of the Traffic Law and its executive regulations, including issuing driving licenses for both males and females, is a qualitative leap towards social and economic reform.
1. Salman the decisive  has resolved the societal debate about women’s leadership and legitimacy, one of the important steps towards social and economic reforms to remove all obstacles to the implementation of Vision 2030.2 – It is a practical and positive step to correct the misconceptions – when some – of the Islamic discourse interpreted by humans, contrary to the divine discourse home, such as the prohibition of some women’s leadership of the car, in this decision is an indication of what our political leadership of enlightenment mentality understands the true Islam, Freedom of movement and enjoyed by the great companions, may God be pleased with them, they were given the means of mobility known in their time, namely horses, camels and donkeys, which are matched cars in our time.

3. This step was confirmed by what the majority of the members of the senior scholars’ council on women’s leadership of the vehicle saw as legitimate in this regard in terms of the origin of permissibility, which is a commendable step by the senior scientists to correct some concepts in some.

4. It is expected soon that this historic decision will be followed by another historic decision, namely, amending the laws and regulations that restrict women’s eligibility in order to activate the Supreme Court issued a few months ago to enable women to carry out their work and treat them in government bodies without requiring the consent of the guardian unless there is a legal basis according to the Sharia.

HRH Prince Khalid Bin Salman, the Kingdom’s ambassador to Washington, has confirmed that the Saudi woman’s extraction of the driver’s license will not be conditional on parental consent.

The requirement of parental consent is one of the things that have been developed in accordance with social customs and traditions, which have been introduced by some. This has led to restricting women and diminishing their eligibility. In the age of Salman, moderation and enlightenment are correcting what in the Islamic discourse is interpreted by some human beings.

5. Granting women the right to freedom of movement will put an end to the deliberate campaigns aimed at undermining the reputation of the Kingdom in international human rights reports and forums.

6. Giving women the right to drive a car is an activation of their participation in Vision 2030, restricting their movement hindered their participation in the development of society, especially as the vision raised the participation rate of women in the labor market to 30%, and there are expectations that it will reach 40%. After allowing her to drive the car. Because this decision will facilitate its work, and will provide them with new jobs.

On the average, the salary of the driver at the beginning of his contract is 1700 riyals with food and drink. There are drivers who exceed the salary of two thousand riyals, in addition to the costs of housing them if they live in apartments that do not have rooms for drivers. Our national economy will save about 25 billion riyals go abroad. This rate of salaries goes to one sr  mln and 400000 for drivers.

8. It will protect our women and children from harassing by some drivers and refresh the stagnant car market.

9. Increase employment opportunities for young people through the establishment of mobile maintenance companies, to repair any malfunction in the car during the leadership of women.

I am confident that Saudi women will adhere to the legal and regulatory rules while driving the car, and their political leadership will not fail in the confidence they have given them.

Thanks from the depths of the peace of decency, moderation and enlightenment to support the women’s rights  in their golden age.
