The Egyptian was irrepressible as the Reds climbed above Tottenham into third place in the Premier League with a performance that will no doubt have caught the attention of leaders Manchester City, who the Merseysiders were drawn against in the Champions League quarter-finals on Friday.

Salah scored two in either half to take his tally to 36 for the season, with a Roberto Firmino goal sandwiched in between completing a brilliant evening’s work for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The victory means Liverpool have stretched their unbeaten home run to 18 league matches and further bolsters their bid for a top-four finish.

Watford, who are winless in nine league games on their travels, drop to 11th but are still eight points clear of the drop zone.
