Egypt’s ambassador: Sultanate of Oman played a positive role in succeeding 1st LAS-EU summit

“The Sultanate’s participation in the first Arab-European summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh reflects the positive and influential role in supporting stability efforts in the region and strengthening the partnership between the Arab and European countries.”, said Ambassador Mohamed Fahmy Ghoneim.

Fahmy appreciated the meeting held by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi with the Deputy Prime Minister for Relations and International Cooperation and Special Representative of Sultan Qaboos, Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, who witnessed a review of the historical relations between the two countries.

The Egyptian Ambassador at the Sultanate of Oman said that the Omani delegation participating in the summit made many positive contributions to the work of the conference and its results, recommendations and aspirations.

Egypt believed in the effective role of the Sultanate of Oman in resolving regional issues and contributing to the dissemination of the principles of peace and tolerance. The Egyptian leadership attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with the wise Omani leadership, in light of the efforts exerted by the Sultanate to bring the views of the various parties on a number of issues of the region closer together, especially as the Sultanate currently presides over the Gulf Cooperation Council, to consult and communicate continuously in many regional and international files.

Ambassador Mohamed Fahmy Ghoneim said in remarks to the Omani press that the first Arab-European summit discussed many issues of great importance to Arabs and the world at large, and Egypt was keen to invite the Sultanate to participate in its meetings, which achieved many positive results.

The final communiqué of the summit stressed the importance of strengthening the Arab-European partnership and supporting a real international and multilateral system, agreeing on resolving the Libyan crisis according to the Sokhirat Agreement, welcoming the Stockholm Agreement for a cease-fire in Hodeidah, Yemen and cooperation. The summit called for the two sides to commit themselves to cooperating in the fight against terrorism, stopping illegal immigration, drying up sources of support for terrorist groups and organizations, and preventing incitement to hatred and racism. The summit called for adherence to the common positions of the Middle East peace process, the illegality of the settlements, the commitment to a two-state solution, the evacuation of the Middle East region from weapons of mass destruction and the resolution of the Syrian crisis.
