Shoukry to UN: Egypt keen on total elimination of nuclear weapons

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, delivered Egypt’s statement to the high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on October 2. More than 100 countries’ representatives, including more than 20 heads of state, spoke and about 40 foreign ministers by recorded words.

Shoukry concluded his speech by stressing that Egypt does not only see the complete elimination of nuclear weapons, irreversibly and subject to international verification as a possible goal, but also considers it a necessary measure to establish peace and security and achieve sustainable development, indicating that Egypt looks forward to the day when the United Nations celebrates the total elimination of nuclear weapons.
