Al Ahly’s forward  has joined Tunisian side  on loan until the end of the 2019/2020 season.

The 27-year-old failed to make a single appearance for the Reds last season after returning from his loan spell at Finnish giants HJK Helsinki, where he won the league title.

Before his time in Finland, Gamal had another loan spell in South Africa with Bidvest Wits FC, guiding them to the Telkom Knockout title and was named player of the tournament.

Gamal has made it clear that he wants more playing time this season and has received several domestic and foreign offers, including one from Czech side 1. FK Příbram.

However, he decided to join Tunisian side CS Sfaxien on a one-year loan after their newly appointed manager Nebojsa Jovović expressed his interest in the player.

Nebojsa had a short stint in Egypt, taking charge of Al Ahly’s arch-rivals Zamalek in 2017, before leaving for Jordan’s Al-Faisaly and then Al Shorta SC of Iraq.

Before travelling to Tunisia, Gamal has signed a new three-year deal with Al Ahly, which will keep him at the club until June 2022.

Amr was promoted from Al Ahly youth team in 2013 and he went on to make around 100 appearances for the club, scoring 30 goals, while registering 10 assists.

He helped the Reds lift three Premier League titles, two Egyptian Super Cups, the 2013 African Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup in 2014 as well as two CAF Super Cups in 2013 and 2014.

Gamal becomes Sfaxien’s seventh summer signing as they are set to take part in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

They finished third in the Tunisian Ligue 1 last season, only two points behind runners-up Étoile du Sahel and four behind league winners Espérance de Tunis.
