Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals from all backgrounds who can demonstrate that they have the commitment and skills required to create positive change, and can show how a UK master’s degree will help them do that. The scholarship offers full financial support for scholars to study for any eligible one year master’s degree at any UK university whilst also gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences. Chevening also offers fellowships in the fields of arts and culture, and Islamic studies.

In 2021, Chevening offered 36 scholarships to Egyptians in various fields including Environment, Finance, Business, International Relations, Development and Law. Women made up more than half of the successful scholars, with 26 female scholars getting ready to pursue their master’s degree.

Since the programme was created in 1983, over 55,000 individuals worldwide and over 1300 Egyptians have received the opportunity to study in the UK – the result of 37 years of investment.

Egyptian Chevening alumni include current Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aty; Vice Minister of Finance for Fiscal Policy, Mr. Ahmed Kouchouk; Deputy of the Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Rami Aboul Naga, Head of Egyptian Stock Exchange, Mr. Mohamed Farid; Commissioner for the Infrastructure and Energy at the African Union, Dr. Amany Abou Zeid.

For the 2022/2023 academic year, there are more than 1,500 scholarships on offer globally, demonstrating the UK’s ongoing commitment towards developing the leaders of tomorrow.

British Ambassador to Egypt, Sir Geoffrey Adams, said: “Chevening is an exceptional scholarship program offering a world-class experience. Our alumni network is full of dynamic Egyptians, who have achieved tremendous work over the years. There is a lot to gain from submitting a thoughtful application, so if you have what it takes to be a Chevening Scholar, I would encourage you to apply before the 3 November deadline.”

Chevening Alumnus and Associate to Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr Ahmed Saada, said: “Chevening award has truly changed my life. It is the journey that enabled me to rediscover myself and to see clearly what I am capable of. It also gave me the chance to be a member of an international family of scholars, who are supportive, like-minded, and leaders in their home countries.”

* About!

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. The scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one year taught master’s degrees – for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers.

Chevening began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international awards scheme. Chevening Scholars come from over 160 countries and territories worldwide, and over the past five years we have awarded almost 10,000 scholarships. There are over 50,000 Chevening Alumni around the world who comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.

The name ‘Chevening’ comes from Chevening House in Sevenoaks, Kent – currently the joint official residence of the UK’s Foreign Secretary.
