President Shavkat Mirziyoyev receives head of elections observation & human rights mission

A short while ago, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as a candidate for the post of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with Eugan Murphy, Head of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

The OSCE Office of Democratic Institutions is one of the leading institutions of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and its mandate includes issues of ensuring respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and contributing to the strengthening of democratic institutions and civil society.

The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights has been observing the presidential and parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan since 1999. In December 2016, the office sent a full mission to Uzbekistan for the first time to observe the presidential elections.

A similar delegation has arrived in Uzbekistan for the current presidential elections. The joint international mission includes observers from the Bureau, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the European Parliament. During the meeting, views were exchanged on issues of conducting democratic reforms, improving electoral legislation and the electoral process, as well as preparing for the upcoming important political event and holding it in accordance with international norms and standards.

The priority directions of the pre-election program of the presidential candidate from the businessmen movement of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan were also considered.
