ICS Appreciates Suez Canal For Supporting Global Trade Against Different Challenges

Mr. Guy Platten – Secretary General of international chamber of shipping (ICS) commented on his participation as a keynote speaker in the Suez Canal Authority’s event to discuss “Suez Canal Supporting Global Trade against Different Challenges” on Sunday, January 16th, at Expo 2020 Dubai.

He said, “I am delighted to be participating in this timely event, to discuss how governments and industry can strengthen long-term cooperation and address the increasing challenges and changes to the global trade landscape. The Ever Given incident in 2021 demonstrated how an unforeseen event can unsettle the finely balanced global supply chain we all rely on. It also underscored the Suez Canal’s strategic importance to the world economy, with an estimated 1 billion tonnes of goods flowing through the Canal each year, around 12% of global trade. In these challenging and uncertain times, government-industry collaboration is more vital than ever before, to keep global trade moving as we seek to build maritime trade back better amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.”
