Dr. Muhammad bin Mubarak Al-Araimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Journalists Association, won the membership of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Journalists.

The final statement of the General Conference of the International Federation of Journalists praised the efforts of the Omani Journalists Association in making the event a success, and through the final statement of the General Conference of the meetings of the International Federation of Journalists “Congress 31” on the importance of promoting the rights of journalists around the world and protecting their press freedoms and human privacy.

In her speech, Dominique Badali, President of the International Federation of Journalists, expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Government of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Omani Journalists Association, for hosting this conference, for the good organization and accompanying events.

Badali also expressed her fascination with what she has heard over the past few days at the high level of communication and exchange of ideas between journalists at the conference.

She said that this conference is a historic conference that we are proud of, as it contains the largest number of journalists from all countries of the world, which coincides with the approaching centenary of the founding of the International Federation of Journalists, stressing that governments must
Protecting journalists and respecting their freedoms, as she dedicated her victory to the spirit of journalist Sherine Abu Aqleh and to journalists whose lives were at risk in the field of journalism.

She called for the need for collective action for journalists, saying: We journalists are an interconnected chain and complement each other

She noted the progress made by women journalists in obtaining the presidential seat in the elections of the International Federation of Journalists.
At today’s meeting of the General Conference of the International Federation of Journalists “Congress 31”, the announcement of the candidates for membership of the Executive Office of the Federation was completed, after the announcement of the presidency of the office yesterday, and the selection of the reserve members of the Executive Office was completed, as it won the membership of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Journalists. Zuliana Lenz of the Republic of Peru retained the position of Vice-President of the Federation, and Nasser Abu Bakr of Palestine and Sabina Anderjit of India won the position of Second Vice-President of the Federation. The closing sessions came after several days of meetings, discussions and humanitarian stands for everything that touches the lives and freedoms of journalists.

 And the work of the 31st General Conference of the International Federation of Journalists “Congress” concluded with the meeting’s participants signing a petition of solidarity with Mumia Abu Jamal, an African American militant journalist, who was sentenced to death in 1982 after being accused of killing a white policeman in Philadelphia, and the sentence was recently commuted. to life imprisonment.

 During the meeting, the attendees listened to an audio message of Mumia Abu Jamal from his prison in America, in which he told reporters that your work has exposed the corruption of nations, and talked about the large number of young prisoners in American prisons, and America is still a large prison.

 Abu Jamal continued, “We need to achieve and strengthen the nourishment of the soul in an indirect way, to fight this injustice; Your work is important in the cause of press freedom.

 On the last day, the regular proposals submitted by the members on the articles of association and many topics related to the union were discussed.
