Minister of MFA Faisal bin Farhan participates in ‘Dakar International Forum for Peace and Security’

Today, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), chaired the Kingdom’s delegation participating in the eighth session of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security, held in the Republic of Senegal.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered the Kingdom’s speech at the opening session, which was attended by the President of the Republic of Senegal Macky Sall, the President of the Republic of Angola, Joao Lourenço, the President of the Republic of Cabo Verde Jose Maria Neves, the Deputy Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau Mario Soares Sambo, and a number of officials.

At the beginning of his speech, His Highness expressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s appreciation for the effective role of the Republic of Senegal in West Africa, and its presidency of the African Union for this year 2022 AD, stressing the Kingdom’s aspiration to advance common interests with African countries and enhance cooperation in the fields of security, energy, trade, investment, and logistics services Activating the role of the private sector to search for investment opportunities that will benefit countries and their peoples.

His Highness renewed the Kingdom’s continuous support for the principles of international legitimacy aimed at maintaining international peace and security, strengthening joint cooperation based on mutual respect for the sovereignty and independence of states, resolving disputes by peaceful means, non-escalation and resorting to force or the threat of force.

His Highness the Foreign Minister also referred to the Kingdom’s position in support of all international efforts aimed at finding a solution to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis in order to protect lives and property, and to preserve regional and international security and stability. His Highness renewed the Kingdom’s call and its readiness to mediate in order to achieve this.

In his speech, His Highness said: “The Kingdom attaches great importance to confronting the common and most pressing global challenges such as food security, the obstacles faced by supply chains and climate change, and aware of the importance of dealing with the challenges of climate change, and the need to address its negative effects, it pays great attention to achieving the objectives of the Convention. Paris climate change.

He added: “To consolidate the Kingdom’s leading role in this field, the Kingdom launched the “Green Saudi Arabia” and “Green Middle East” initiatives, in support of national and regional efforts in this regard, and announced ambitious goals to diversify energy sources, raise the efficiency of their production and consumption, and put forward qualitative initiatives to protect the environment. And to promote sustainable afforestation, reduce emissions by 278 million tons annually by 2030, and reach net zero carbon emissions by 2060 through the circular carbon economy approach, and in line with the Kingdom’s development plans and enable its economic diversification.The Green Middle East Initiative will hold its second summit this month. Next November in Sharm El-Sheikh, on the sidelines of the Climate Change Conference (COP 27), the Kingdom welcomes all active contributions from African countries, benefiting from their experiences in presenting and exchanging views, in order to achieve the goals of the initiative and maximize its results.

His Highness noted the Kingdom’s welcome to the establishment of the focus group for Africa within the international coalition against ISIS to confront the growing danger of its spread on the African continent, and its support for the group’s efforts and all efforts aimed at combating this scourge and eradicating its roots.

His Highness expressed the Kingdom’s interest in the African continent and in advancing the development process in its countries, which are full of enormous investment opportunities. He said: “The Public Investment Fund is working alongside major Saudi companies to establish more trade and investment partnerships in the African continent in the fields of energy, mining, communications and nutrition. and other fields.

At the conclusion of his speech, His Highness reiterated the Kingdom’s emphasis on the need to activate multilateral frameworks to confront common challenges, and to provide partnerships that create the regional environment to ensure the continent’s ability to exploit its resources and achieve more growth and prosperity in line with the sustainable development goals.
