A Saudi faculty member at the University of California, Dr. Faisal Nawab leads a research team to develop projects for technology companies in Silicon Valley, led by Meta, known as Facebook. Dr. Faisal explained that the largest project is for the well-known “Meta” company, “Facebook”, after the team he leads won the 2021 research company award for future technologies to improve the next generation of the Internet.
He said, “The project aims to process data to build systems around the world to match the huge user data that the company owns, through protocols and algorithms that communicate efficiently, reduce data differences, and allow me to communicate in a more hierarchical manner.”
He added, while the other two projects, one with a start-up company to develop research ideas in the laboratory to process data in smart cities and universities through products that they transfer, and the other for the game company “Roblox” to solve the problem of data pressure during vacation periods in light of the large number of users and the pressure of processing images, data and interaction. between players.
On the other hand, he confirmed that there are two other collaborations from Saudi universities, one with Dr. Bassem Shehata in research projects to develop blockchain systems and smart cities, and the other with Taibah University and Prince Muqrin University, and Dr. Ahmed Shweil, who was a visitor in his research group to enhance the integrity of chain-related systems. Mass.
Dr. Faisal talked about his teaching experience for the second year at the University of California, saying: “What distinguishes it is that a university like California is one of the best universities in the world, as it brings together elite students, especially in postgraduate studies, which makes teaching and supervision an opportunity for continuous education in a constantly evolving field.” The emergence of technologies continuously,” adding: “The university is not only distinguished, but the state is an academically distinguished environment, as it gathers a large number of universities classified as the best universities in the world, in addition to the very large support for research from various government and private agencies, as government agencies are widespread And it cooperates in finding courses, while the private sector, which consists of the world’s most famous and leading technology companies, such as those located in Silicon Valley, provides knowledge of research problems and finding solutions to them, which makes them enjoy a good reputation, which thus contributes to attracting researchers and students worldwide.
Dr. Faisal, who graduated from the University of Petroleum and obtained a master’s degree from King Abdullah Technical University “KAUST”, stressed the huge and rapid leap that the education sector in Saudi Arabia enjoyed in the last decade, which made Saudi universities compete with their international counterparts in well-known international rankings and increased research production. , praising the performance and level of Saudi scholarship students, especially those who were highly qualified academically and scientifically from institutions such as the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, King Abdullah Technical University “KAUST”, the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Charitable Foundation and Aramco.
In the same regard, he added: “If we compare the American and Saudi education systems, the first is excellent, but it is expected and proceeds in the same way, while the Saudi educational system is very innovative and ambitious, which gives the impression of being able to achieve the aspirations adopted by His Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect him.”
