Riyadh – His Excellency the Secretary-General, President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Essa, received His Excellency the President of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Karam Jabr, accompanied by a high-ranking delegation of Egyptian media leaders in the fields of journalism and satellite.
The meeting witnessed an extensive discussion on a number of intellectual and media issues of interest in the Islamic and international arenas. His Excellency the Secretary General spoke about the extremely important role played by the media in spreading the truth and raising awareness with objectivity, impartiality and professional honesty, which represents the moral value of responsibility.
His Excellency touched on the issue of freedoms in media work, stressing that it is an important value as long as it is framed by legitimacy, adding that the Arab and Islamic media have played a good role in advancing media responsibility, having a rich record of giving, but ambition requires more giving from it, expressing his pleasure in the media competition. Al-Sharif, and that every media platform has its weight in what distinguishes it in our Arab and Islamic world.
Dr. Al-Issa explained that the MWL – as an international non-governmental organization concerned with the Muslim peoples – carries out a number of initiatives and programs around the world, according to its stated goals that focus on clarifying the truth of Islam, confronting ideas of extremism, terrorism, hatred, racism and its rhetoric, and working to strengthen the Islamic role it deserves in Islam. The field of the Alliance of Civilizations, especially building bridges of understanding and cooperation between followers of religions and cultures beyond the times of dialogues and their diaspora.
His Excellency stated that the League does not deal with politics and does not interfere in any political matter. Except for what was at the heart of its goals and messages that are specifically focused on contributing to the peace of our world and the harmony of its national societies, based on the values of our great religion that came as a mercy to the worlds.
Sheikh Al-Issa announced the intention of the Muslim World League to hold an international conference on media responsibility, with the participation of the most prominent Islamic and non-Islamic media figures and institutions around the world.
For its part, the Egyptian delegation expressed its appreciation for the efforts of the Muslim World League in general, and for the initiative to hold the conference on this important issue in particular.
