Today, April 9, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made a phone call to the United Nations (USpecial Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the call aimed to consult and coordinate with the UN envoy on the Syrian crisis and ways to push for a political solution, as Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s full support for the efforts of the UN envoy to reach a comprehensive political settlement under Syrian ownership, in line with the Security Council resolution. No. 2254, in light of the great priority that Egypt attaches to restoring the security and stability of sisterly Syria and ending all forms of terrorism and foreign interference in it.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the call also dealt with ways to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people, stressing Egypt’s constant keenness to contribute strongly to efforts to alleviate that suffering. The two sides agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming period, as the UN envoy expressed his full appreciation for Egypt’s role and its continuous support for the United Nations in resolving the Syrian crisis.
