Counselor Jamal Rushdi, official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, stated that Aboul Gheit received a statement from the Sudanese delegation that includes a number of demands to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, especially women, girls, children, the elderly, people with chronic diseases, and the disabled, both men and women. And girls in Sudan and the impact of the ongoing war on them and the violations and psychological and physical violence they are subjected to requires concerted efforts to mitigate its psychological, social and health effects.
The spokesman added that the women’s delegation called on the League of Arab States to exert efforts to put pressure on the conflicting parties to stop the war in Sudan and allow humanitarian aid, and to strengthen the principle of non-interference from outside, and to emphasize the support of neighboring countries in caring for Sudanese refugees, and to intensify their efforts to ensure the protection of women and children in line with the decision of the Security Council. The spokesman stated that Aboul Gheit affirmed during the meeting his constant keenness to follow up on the difficult conditions that the Sudanese live in as a result of the war, especially the extremely dangerous conditions that Sudanese women suffer from, whether when they stay inside the country, with all the threats that this poses to their lives and their families, or when they are displaced or seek refuge abroad.
