22 March 2021, CAIRO – Newton Mosharafa’s Leaders in Innovation Fellowship (LIF) programme concluded its first 2021 Egypt virtual workshop, welcoming a new cohort of participants.

Delivered by the Royal Academy of Engineering and Egypt’s Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority, as part of the UK-Egypt Newton-Mosharafa Fund, the workshop aimed at familiarising LIF participants with Egypt’s unique innovation ecosystem.

Participants had the opportunity to engage with local entrepreneurs and ecosystem experts, participate in collaborative workshops and focus keenly on how to effectively commercialise their ideas and navigate the challenges of the Egyptian ecosystem. They were introduced to key methods for building industry and corporate partnerships, allocating investment and funding, and were able to learn collaboratively through case studies from local Egyptian entrepreneurs and LIF alumni.

The LIF programme supports science, innovation and economic development around the world. It brings together emerging leaders in the global innovation community, providing them with access to high-quality skills training focused on commercialisation. It also aims to develop a network of peers – here in Egypt, in the UK, and around the world.

In 2021, the programme is being delivered to 14 different countries, Egypt among them, and is helping create truly outstanding international networks of innovators and technology entrepreneurs. By doing so, Egypt and the UK are working together to directly address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship for economic growth.
