Resolving the Syrian crisis,  MFA Minister meets the UN Special Envoy to Syria

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sameh Shoukry, met on February 26, during his visit to Geneva, with the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, Mr. Geir Pedersen. The meeting comes within the framework of Egypt’s efforts to help the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic to emerge from its crisis, and to find effective ways to end this ongoing crisis.

Ambassador Abu Zeid revealed that Minister Shukri expressed to the UN envoy Egypt’s appreciation for the keenness of Mr. Pedersen and his team to constantly coordinate with Egypt regarding the various developments in the Syrian file, explaining that Egypt, for its part, is keen to consult and coordinate continuously with the member states of the Arab Liaison Committee on Syria. This is to implement the outcomes that were agreed upon in the Amman and Cairo statements, which aim to develop radical solutions to deal with all dimensions of the Syrian crisis.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman explained that the meeting witnessed Minister Shukri learning from the UN envoy about the latest developments in the latter’s efforts at all levels to resolve the crisis in Syria, whether related to convening the Constitutional Committee, as well as the results of the “Astana” process meetings, in addition to the developments in his contacts with All relevant parties to coordinate joint efforts in this regard.
