Activating the recommendations of the International Climate Conference recently in the Scottish city of Glasgow, Britain, the European Union organized today a campaign to make the Nile water purer because of its great importance to the Egyptians.
So, the island of Al-Qursaya was the scene of the initiative, where the ambassadors of the European countries, headed by the Ambassador of the European Union, Mr. Christian Berger, participated. Volunteers and all the printed, visual and audio media also participated in the campaign.
Specifically, the disinfection process was limited to collecting plastic materials such as bottles, plastic bags, and others, for the purpose of purification first and then re-manufacturing them again.
The purification process started from ten in the morning until afternoon using purification boats and disinfection tools. The process of collecting plastic materials reached about 1085 bottles, as well as plastic bags.
On the dangers of plastic, Ambassador Burger warned the Egyptians against using plastic materials in foodstuffs because of their great dangers, especially for children.
Ambassador Christian Burger pointed out the importance of enhancing awareness among the Egyptians to confront the phenomenon before it moves to the Mediterranean and kills aquatic organisms.
Also Mr Burger advised the bad need to resist humane use of plastic materials in our daily lives, since in the past, people did not use plastic dishes.
In addition to collecting plastic materials, painting and restructuring of the boats of the fishermen on the island of Kursaya was carried out by all participants within the framework of the initiative.
Occasionally, he European Union ambassador, Mr Burger, also praised Egypt’s winning of organizing the next World Climate Change Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.
