Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), headed to the Turkish capital, Ankara, today, October 15, on his first visit since assuming his position in 2016, in response to an invitation he received from the Turkish government.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that the visit is expected to witness discussions with the Turkish side about the raging conditions in the region in general and with regard to the Palestinian issue in particular in light of the great interest it receives from both sides. He added that the two sides are also expected to discuss a number of political issues, including strengthening relations and cooperation between the Arab League and Turkey, taking into account Turkey’s role and activity in the international arena, and also in light of the currently distinguished relations between the two sides in many fields and Turkey’s positive positions on the Palestinian issue.
The official spokesman explained that Aboul Gheit will participate in the opening of the 15th session of the Arab-Turkish Economic Cooperation Forum, which will be held on October 17 in Istanbul.
