Makkah – Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 AH
In a remarkable medical success during this year’s Hajj season, an Egyptian pilgrim regained her vision after undergoing an urgent and complex eye surgery at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, under the umbrella of Makkah Health Cluster.

The case was managed as part of Saudi Arabia’s Emergency Care Model, one of the key pillars of the country’s Health Care Transformation Program, designed to ensure rapid and efficient treatment for time-sensitive conditions.

⚕️ Diagnosis: Retinal Detachment and Cataract

Medical examinations revealed that the patient was suffering from retinal detachment accompanied by a cataract — a vision-threatening emergency that could lead to permanent blindness if not treated immediately.

👨‍⚕️ A High-Precision Surgical Procedure

The surgical team, led by Dr. Osama Al-Omari, Consultant in Retinal Surgery, along with experts from the anesthesia and nursing departments, carried out a same-day, multi-step surgical intervention which included:

  • Cataract removal and intraocular lens implantation
  • Vitrectomy (removal of the vitreous body)
  • Retinal reattachment using silicone oil injection

The operation was fully successful, restoring the patient’s sight — Alhamdulillah.

🏥 Safe Discharge and Ongoing Monitoring

The pilgrim was discharged in stable condition on the same day and is now undergoing close medical follow-up to ensure retinal stability and gradual improvement of her vision.

💡 Rapid Response Saved Her Vision

This case highlights the impact of early diagnosis, rapid intervention, and surgical precision in saving the patient’s sight and allowing her to continue her pilgrimage in comfort and safety.
