Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a telephone conversation on Sunday, August 10, 2025, with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, as part of regular consultations on regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza.

Minister Abdelatty firmly rejected the Israeli Ministerial Council’s decision to expand military operations in Gaza and entrench Israel’s occupation of the enclave. He stressed that such a move poses extreme dangers, leading to further deterioration and instability in Gaza. He called for a clear international stance against this decision, urging the European Union to act swiftly to halt Israel’s dangerous escalation.

He further underlined that Israel’s actions aim to cement its illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, reiterating Egypt’s total rejection of systematic starvation and deliberate killings of the Palestinian people. The minister described Israel’s repeated violations as blatant breaches of international law and international humanitarian law. In this context, he commended Germany’s decision to suspend arms and military equipment exports to Israel that could be used in operations inside Gaza.

The two ministers also discussed the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Abdelatty briefed his German counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave, urging Israel to remove obstacles blocking such assistance. He also outlined preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza, to take place once a ceasefire is reached.

For his part, Foreign Minister Wadephul expressed Germany’s deep appreciation for Egypt’s tireless mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire and secure humanitarian access to Gaza. He praised Egypt’s initiative to host the Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference, confirming Germany’s readiness to participate at a high level as a co-sponsor, in recognition of the importance Berlin attaches to Gaza’s recovery and rebuilding. He also concurred with Egypt on the grave risks posed by the expansion of Israeli military operations in the Strip.
