Poetry: Ashraf AboArafe
According to my heart’s desire, my love,
I shall greet you with peace…
Peace upon peace, upon peace—
According to my heart’s desire.
I wasted my years for you, my love,
For in your arms I carved my tales…
Tales that whisper through the nights,
Tales unending,
According to my heart’s desire.
The Lament
Patience melted into sorrow,
Since the day your shadow vanished.
Never once, O eyes, O night,
Have you returned to me, my love.
Yet I endure what fate has written—
Perhaps one day you shall return,
And together we shall weave again, my love,
Sweet days and living tales…
Tales upon tales,
According to my heart’s desire.
With the Wind
As the wind carries me, I follow—
Step by step, yet not by choice.
I know not if I journey home,
Or when the storm shall calm.
This world plays its games with us,
Yet perhaps our songs shall rise again.
Perhaps I’ll find with you once more, my love,
Days of joy, and endless tales…
Defiance of Fate
I shall not bow to what is written,
Nor sleep defeated in the night.
I’ll cry to the world: O world—
I am returning to my love!
We shall sing new songs,
Filled with joy and stories bright.
We shall weave the cloth of gladness,
And I shall greet you, saying: Peace…
Peace upon peace, upon peace—
According to my heart’s desire.
