During his meeting with Mr. Imran Ali Khan, Chairman of the Canadian IMGS Group, and a high-level delegation from China’s FAMSUN Company,
Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), explored the prospects of forging a tripartite partnership in food security as part of the Canal’s developmental projects.
The discussions focused on the possibility of establishing a world-class food logistics hub in Port Fuad, capitalizing on the Canal’s unique geographic position.
In his remarks, Lt. Gen. Rabie emphasized the Authority’s determination to maximize the benefits of its resources and its unrivaled location at the heart of global trade routes, aiming to develop value-added logistics projects that serve Egypt’s national interests and strengthen the developmental role of the Canal.
He explained that the ongoing negotiations bring together three parties—the SCA, China’s FAMSUN, and Canada’s IMGS Group—towards the establishment of an international food logistics center in Port Fuad.
Rabie further noted that a cooperation protocol is expected to be signed soon, defining roles and responsibilities, and finalizing the technical and financial studies needed to launch the project’s implementation in the near future.
For his part, Mr. Imran Ali Khan expressed his eagerness to partner with the Suez Canal Authority, highlighting the Canal’s strategic location as an unparalleled opportunity to create a logistics hub that will contribute to the sustainability of global food security.
He reaffirmed IMGS’s readiness to contribute its technical expertise and know-how, and to collaborate with Egypt as a gateway to the Middle East and Africa. Khan also underscored that the Canal’s international reputation and logistical advantages make it a natural magnet for global suppliers, ensuring efficiency in transport and resilience in food supply chains.
