Cairo, September 17 — Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Expatriates, met on Wednesday with Spain’s Foreign Minister, Mr. José Manuel Albares, in the context of the historic visit of His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain and Her Majesty Queen Letizia to Egypt.
Minister Abdelatty praised the steady growth of relations between Egypt and Spain, which have recently been elevated to the level of a strategic partnership. He welcomed the royal visit as a reflection of the deep bonds between the two friendly nations and commended Spain’s consistent support for Egypt within the European Union, stressing the importance of continued backing in European institutions as both countries share common positions aimed at ending conflicts and promoting regional stability.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted opportunities for bilateral cooperation, particularly in investment, energy, and green hydrogen projects, while underscoring the importance of further collaboration in tourism, education, migration, and counter-terrorism.
On regional affairs, Abdelatty briefed his Spanish counterpart on the outcomes of the Arab-Islamic Emergency Summit held in Doha on September 15. He reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of Israel’s violations of the sovereignty of Arab states and strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza, including the recent unlawful ground invasion. He warned of its grave threat to regional security and called on the international community to act decisively against policies of blockade, starvation, settlement expansion, and forced displacement.
Abdelatty emphasized that the only path to peace lies in a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also praised Spain’s principled stance in supporting Palestine and its recent decisions in response to Israel’s aggression and systematic atrocities against the defenseless people of Gaza.
