Ambassador Tariq Al Ansari, Qatar’s Ambassador to Canada, stated that he was honored to participate as part of the delegation of the State of Qatar, led by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, in the official Qatari–Canadian talks held in Doha on January 18, 2026.

The discussions took place at the Amiri Diwan, hosted by His Highness, on the occasion of the first official visit by Dr. Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, to Doha—marking the first-ever visit by a Canadian Prime Minister to the State of Qatar. Ambassador Al Ansari expressed his pleasure at meeting Prime Minister Carney, as well as Anita Anand, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, noting that he looks forward to working closely with her in advancing shared values and mutual interests.

The session and accompanying high-level discussions, attended by ministers from both sides, resulted in the launch of a new, comprehensive partnership between the two friendly nations. This partnership spans a wide range of fields, including economic and political cooperation, technology and communications, air transport, artificial intelligence, defense and security collaboration, investment and trade, as well as development and cultural cooperation.

Several agreements were signed during the visit, with further agreements set to be concluded over the course of this year and in the years ahead. Both sides also agreed to move forward in strengthening frameworks of cooperation through an ambitious, time-bound plan that reflects the depth of bilateral relations and shared aspirations.

Ambassador Al Ansari concluded by describing this moment as a major leap forward in Qatari–Canadian relations—one guided by the wisdom of visionary leadership and a shared commitment to building a forward-looking partnership.
