AS part of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 celebrations, the Embassy of India in Cairo organized a special felicitation ceremony on Monday, 20 July 2026, to honour Ms. Amira Ahmed Fahmy, recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga 2025.
The ceremony celebrated Ms. Fahmy’s achievement as the first—and to date, only—Egyptian to receive this prestigious global honour, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga in Egypt and the deepening cultural ties between the two nations.
Highlights of the Ceremony

Ambassador’s Address: H.E. Mr. Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of India to Egypt, congratulated Ms. Fahmy and highlighted the significance of the Prime Minister’s Yoga Award. He encouraged Egyptian practitioners to participate in future award editions while emphasizing yoga’s universal role in fostering physical health, mental well-being, and inner harmony.

A Journey of Three Decades: Reflecting on her 30+ year path, Ms. Amira Ahmed Fahmy described yoga as a transformative practice. She expressed deep gratitude to her teachers and mentors while reaffirming her commitment to spreading yoga’s message of balance and peace.

Community & Cultural Harmony: The event featured the felicitation of winners from the Embassy’s “Your Favourite Photo of You Doing Yoga” contest. In a heartwarming gesture, 20 children from the Donzi Art Academy presented Ambassador Reddy with six handcrafted portraits as a symbol of friendship.

The evening concluded with live yoga demonstrations and vibrant cultural performances celebrating India’s rich heritage. The Embassy of India extends its warmest congratulations to Ms. Amira Ahmed Fahmy and thanks all partners and attendees for strengthening the bond between India and Egypt.
