Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy has issued a fierce condemnation following the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by thousands of Israeli settlers today, carried out under the protection of occupation police and accompanied by Israeli government ministers.

Fahmy warned that the sharp escalation in these incursions over recent months reveals a systematic plot to divide the holy site temporally and spatially. He emphasized the extreme danger posed by this scheme, orchestrated by an extremist clique dominating the occupation government.

Reaffirming that Israel holds no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites, Fahmy stated that attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo of the Old City blatantly violate international law. He cautioned that continued systematic breaches, encouraged and participated in by Israeli authorities and far-right ministers, carry catastrophic risks.

Fahmy stressed that provoking the sentiments of Arabs and Muslims threatens to ignite explosive unrest across the region. He reiterated that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, under the Jordanian Ministry of Sacred Assets, remains the sole authority legally entitled to manage the holy site and regulate entry.
