THE League of Arab States (LAS) is closely observing the latest developments in Libya’s political trajectory, highlighting the signing of a key agreement by participants of the “4+4” small-group meeting. Signed in Tripoli on August 30, the pact focuses on executing the first two milestones of the political roadmap facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
The Arab League officially participated in the signing ceremony through its Tripoli office, reflecting its active role in the International Follow-up Committee on Libya stemming from the Berlin Process, as well as its ongoing commitment to monitoring all efforts surrounding the Libyan conflict.
Looking ahead, the Arab League will continue to monitor the situation closely. It plans to intensify contacts and consultations with various Libyan factions, concerned Arab nations, the United Nations, and international stakeholders to bridge gaps, foster mutual understanding, and strengthen the prospects for national reconciliation.
The League emphasizes that the current climate demands building upon every positive step that brings Libyan perspectives closer together. Creating the necessary conditions for a stable transition is vital to ending institutional division, unifying state bodies, and holding the long-awaited national elections. Crucially, the League re-affirms that the political process must remain strictly Libyan-led and Libyan-owned, rooted in broad national consensus to safeguard the country’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent decision-making.
