The leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Poland arrived in Kyiv on May 10 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II and to express solidarity with Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia.

The visit also included a meeting dubbed the “Coalition of the Willing,” where discussions focused on enhancing support for Ukraine, including potential military and economic aid.

Moscow sharply criticized the visit, describing it as provocative. In an official statement, Russian authorities accused Western leaders of “reviving Cold War-era rhetoric” and escalating tensions with Russia. The statement drew controversial parallels between modern European support for Ukraine and historical aggressors, claiming Western powers are ignoring the lessons of history.

“This is a continuation of a destructive path aimed at destabilizing the region and provoking further confrontation,” a Russian official said.

The visit comes at a time of intensifying military activity on the frontlines in Ukraine, while the international community continues to call for de-escalation and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
