The 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit will be held in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, marking the largest gathering in the organization’s history. Foreign leaders and heads of international organizations have begun arriving in China, with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly landing at Beijing Capital International Airport at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
Egypt joined the SCO family as a Dialogue Partner following the 2022 Samarkand Summit. As a major Arab, Islamic, and African nation — and an important developing country — Egypt’s participation reflects the vitality, cohesion, and growing appeal of the “Shanghai Spirit.”
Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. The two nations share a deep friendship and a strong partnership, working hand-in-hand for development and shared prosperity.
Practical cooperation spans infrastructure, finance, trade, space, and cultural exchange. Together, China and Egypt built Egypt’s first electric light rail transit line and established the China–Egypt Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone in the Suez Canal corridor. These joint efforts have delivered tangible outcomes across multiple sectors.
In recent years, under the leadership of both presidents, the comprehensive strategic partnership has advanced rapidly, entering its strongest period in history. Last year, the two countries celebrated the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership, and next year will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
