In the presence of the Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received today, Saturday 10/26/2024, Mr. Andriy Sibiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, who is currently visiting the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that Aboul Gheit and Sibiha held an extended session of talks that focused mainly on the war between Ukraine and Russia, the possibilities of its development, and ways to reach a close end to it.
He explained that the Secretary-General listened to a detailed explanation from the Ukrainian Minister about his country’s assessment of the current military situation, as well as Ukraine’s vision of what might be required to end the war and Ukraine’s initiatives in this regard.
He pointed out that Aboul Gheit stressed the Arab vision based on the importance of the international community applying the same standards with which it deals with the concepts of occupation, seizure of lands by force, and violation of human rights, explaining the importance of adopting the same concepts regardless of the crisis under discussion, whether in Ukraine, Palestine, or any other conflict. In this context, Aboul Gheit stressed the need to seek to resolve the crisis between Russia and Ukraine through peaceful means in a way that stops the bloodshed and is consistent with human rights principles.
The official spokesman added that the meeting also touched on the situation in the Middle East, particularly the Israeli war on Gaza and Lebanon and the Ukrainian positions in this regard.
