At the time of collapsing his elements locally and globally, President Donald Trump has called a looming impeachment inquiry against him a \u201cpositive,\u201d saying it will help him \u201cwin the election.\u201d House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the investigation shortly afterwards.<\/div>\n

Speaking to reporters at the UN General Assembly in New York, Trump said that impeachment would be\u00a0\u201ca positive for me,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0adding\u00a0\u201cwe will win the election.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Democrats in Congress have threatened to impeach Trump countless times already \u2013 sometimes for non-offenses like\u00a0\u201cbeing such good\u00a0friends<\/a>\u00a0with Putin,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0or making up mean\u00a0nicknames<\/a>. However, this latest effort has garnered more momentum than previous attempts.<\/p>\n

Democrats accuse Trump of pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate 2020 candidate Joe Biden\u2019s son Hunter and his business dealings in the country, in a July phone call. Trump has promised to release a transcript of the call clearing him of wrongdoing, but Democrats have demanded the full content of the whistleblower complaint that drew attention to the call in the first place.<\/p>\n

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made the call on Tuesday evening, giving her blessing to the 176 House Democrats already favoring impeachment. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has said that he will back Pelosi\u2019s decision, though the inquiry still requires a vote in the House before it is authorized.<\/p>\n

Reported by<\/em> RT, “Today, I’m announcing the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry,”<\/em>\u00a0Pelosi said in a televised statement.<\/p>\n

The speaker accused Trump of\u00a0\u201casking the president of Ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and said the administration broke the law by withholding a whistleblower complaint pertaining to the phone call from Congress.<\/p>\n

“The president must be held accountable; no one is above the law,”<\/em>\u00a0Pelosi continued.<\/p>\n

Until now, Pelosi has resisted the clamor for impeachment from within her own party, calling the rigamarole\u00a0\u201cdivisive\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and insisting that it would only energize Trump\u2019s base.<\/p>\n

Within seconds of Pelosi’s announcement, Trump launched into a Twitter tirade, lambasting the move as\u00a0\u201cPRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The president also followed that up with\u00a0a campaign ad accusing Democrats of having\u00a0\u201cone sole focus,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0referring to impeachment.<\/p>\n

Democrats did not even wait for the transcript of his contentious call to be released, Trump said, suggesting that they timed the announcement to\u00a0\u201cruin\u201d<\/em>\u00a0an\u00a0\u201cimportant day at the United Nations\u201d<\/em>\u00a0that brought\u00a0\u201cmuch success.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Despite Pelosi\u2019s apparent change of heart, impeachment is not popular with voters. Even at the height of Robert Mueller\u2019s \u2018Russiagate\u2019 investigation, support for investigating and ousting Trump rarely cracked 40 percent in the polls. Amid Trump\u2019s public \u2018racism\u2019 feud with the quartet of progressive lawmakers\u00a0known as \u2018the Squad\u2019 this summer,\u00a0support<\/a>\u00a0for impeachment still barely passed 30 percent.<\/p>\n

If the alleged evidence against Trump is sufficient to see him deposed, then Pelosi\u2019s gambit will pay off. If not, her party will face an angry electorate \u2013 Republican and Democrat \u2013 next year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
