Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received today, May 2, Ambassador Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, envoy of Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, and his accompanying delegation.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that the Sudanese presidential envoy conveyed to the Secretary-General a verbal message from the President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council about the developments of the current situation in Sudan, including the military situation on the ground and the challenges faced by the Sudanese Armed Forces in imposing security and regaining control, especially in Khartoum, the capital, adding that the Sudanese presidential envoy stressed the importance that Sudan attaches to the understanding and support of the Arab and League countries for the course of affairs in his country and its need for Arab support for its legitimate institutions, which leads to the restoration of stability.
The spokesman added that the Secretary-General stressed during the meeting the keenness of the Arab League on the stability of Sudan and the protection of its people, capabilities and institutions, which was evident in the decision issued by the meeting of the League Council at the level of delegates issued on today.
The Secretary-General also stressed the importance of reaching arrangements to deal with the deteriorating humanitarian situation in areas witnessing armed clashes
Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the university’s readiness to provide all support to Sudan with the aim of achieving security and stability in Sudan, stopping the bloodshed of its people and preserving its territorial integrity.
