Shoukry and Lavrov expressed their eagerness to boost cooperation between Cairo and Moscow, especially after the momentum the ties between the two countries have witnessed in the last period, Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.
Their talks also tackled some regional issues, especially the latest developments of the Palestinian cause and the situation in Libya.
During the call, Shoukry reiterated Egypt’s supporting stance of all UN efforts aiming at reaching a comprehensive settlement which could uproot terrorism and restore security and stability to the war-torn country.
Concerning the Palestinian cause, Shoukry warned of the unilateral Israeli actions of annexing more Palestinian lands, stressing that such measures would complicate the situation further more and destabilize the region.
The top Egyptian diplomat also briefed Lavrov on the developments of the Ethiopian dam file and Egypt’s approval to resume negotiations to reach a satisfactory agreement to all sides.
