Antiquities Ministry:Lower part of King Psamtik I statue unearthed in Matariya

SIS – The Egyptian-German Archaeological Mission unearthed during its work in Matariya’s Souq el Khamis a large number of artifacts such as the lower part of King Psamtik I statue whose upper part was discovered in March.

There was also archaeological evidence of the largest statue that belongs to god of ancient Egypt Ra-Horakhty besides archaeological remains of King Ramses II statue.

In statements on Monday, the head of the Egyptian antiquities sector in the Antiquities Ministry Ayman el Ashmawi said that the excavation work focused this time on the site where the upper part of the statue was found to unearth the rest of the statue which the local and international media have paid great attention to it.

He further reiterated that the discovered part of the Quartzite statue highlights accuracy and mastery in sculpture reached by the ancient Egyptians in this era.

Ashmawi underlined that there are archaeological evidence of a statue that belongs to Ra-Horakhty which is made of Granite.
