“Recognizing only West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, while ignoring the recognition that East Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Palestine, has a clear bias towards the Israeli position,” Abul-Gheit said in a statement from Abu Dhabi, where he is attending a conference on the digital economy in the Arab region.
The Secretary-General added: “The Australian position is therefore flawed. Therefore, it is disturbing us that it involves a blatant bias towards Israel. When their declaration referred to Palestine, it was intended to be vague and did not include recognition of the State of Palestine, but it talked about the rest of Jerusalem and this is what we categorically reject. “
“I call on the Australian government to correct its position and recognize the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital without delay,” he said.
