LAS monitors Tunisia’s referendum on its new constitution

His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), received an invitation from Mr. Farouk Bouaskar, President of the Independent High Authority for Elections, to send a delegation from the Arab League to participate in the observation of the national referendum on the new constitution of the Tunisian Republic scheduled to be held on 25/7/2022.

His Excellency the Secretary-General directed the dispatch of a mission from the League of Arab States headed by Ambassador Dr. Abdul-Hussein Al-Hindawi – Assistant Secretary-General, and the membership of observers from the General Secretariat of the Arab League belonging to 5 Arab nationalities (Iraq, Egypt, Comoros, Algeria, Kuwait) to note this entitlement.

The mission’s objectives are to observe the various aspects of the referendum process in all impartiality and impartiality, including voter registration and the referendum campaign, in addition to the polling day and the counting and counting of votes, and to ensure that they comply with the laws and regulations of the Tunisian state, as well as recognized international standards and obligations.

The mission will arrive in the Tunisian capital on Thursday, 7/21/2022, and it is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with the Tunisian authorities concerned with preparing and organizing this referendum, particularly the Independent High Authority for Elections.

In this context, the Arab League mission expresses its aspiration that this entitlement will take place in the best case and that its results will reflect the will of the Tunisian people freely, and that this will serve to strengthen the security, stability and unity of the Tunisian Republic, in order to achieve the aspirations of the Tunisian people for development and prosperity.
