KSHARC reviews the volume of humanitarian and relief aid before United Nations Human Rights Council about Yemen

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSHARC) participated in two seminars related to Yemeni humanitarian affairs on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.

The center was represented by the Director of the Medical and Environmental Aid Department, Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Moallem, and the Director of the Community Support Department, Dr. Hana Omar Salem.

The first symposium discussed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian and relief assistance in Yemen and how this aid contributed to improving the Yemeni human situation, while the second symposium discussed the problem of the spread of mines in Yemeni lands, and the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in removing those mines through the “Masam” project dedicated to clearing Yemeni lands. Of the mines planted by the Houthi militia, which have claimed the lives of thousands of children, women, and the elderly, caused permanent disabilities, burdened health and treatment facilities, and caused economic losses to individuals and society, as what has been spent so far to remove these mines has amounted to more than 167 million US dollars, as well as training the Yemeni brothers To deal with mines and educate them, pointing out that the militias are the ones laying these mines, and that there are more than a million mines in Yemeni territory, and the challenges facing humanitarian work in mine clearance were addressed, such as the lack of maps of mine sites and the randomness in their planting, and the development of some Types of mines such as anti-tank mines that are used against individuals, in addition to the impact and reality of mines on the Yemeni present and future, and the most important The pressure of the international community on the Houthi to prevent the planting of mines, especially in civilian areas.

The two seminars were attended by the United Nations Office of Landmines, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Mr. William David Gersley, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
