Leadership in the Arab Region

Listen to this article

Ahmed Moustafa writes

The Egyptian, Arab, and southern people remember today, January 15, the anniversary of the birth of the nomadic leader of the south who remains in our memory (Gamal Abdel Nasser). And why? Because it was unique. He tried to empower the peoples of the South, who suffered from injustice and persecution, especially the Arab peoples whose countries were occupied by Britain or France, and compensate them for what colonialism had done to them in terms of usurping all rights.

Abdel Nasser discovered this, after his bitter experience in the 1948 Palestine War, at a time when the Arab peoples collectively did not have a strong regular army capable of protecting them from the Zionist occupation. The Zionist army, which has been occupying Arab lands since 1948, was heavily armed with American, British, and French weapons, and well-trained for conflict. Unfortunately, there was a conspiracy on the part of the Arab regimes that was justified at the time because all the regimes were reactionary and controlled by the occupation of London and Paris.

With the July 1952 revolution, considered Egypt’s national day until now, leader Abdel Nasser tried to besiege colonialism in the Arab countries, Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and put the issue of Palestine at his head as the issue of the century for him. He supported and helped Abdel Nasser all the countries that suffered from colonialism to liberate and preserve its wealth for its people – and for this reason, the value of this leader and those who accompanied him, or those who were his students, including (Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Beatrice Lumumba, Nkrumah, and others, and even the South African leader Nelson Mandela) has settled in the minds of the Egyptian, Arab and southern citizens in the world.

With the repetition of what happened in Palestine these days at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 – and also the passage of exactly 100 days of the brutal Zionist aggression against our people in Gaza, thanks to what happened from the Palestinian resistance (Hamas – Al-Qassam – Islamic Jihad) on October 7. As well as those who supported them after that (Hezbollah from Lebanon – the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq – Ansar Allah / Houthi forces in Yemen) and international support from the new powers (Iran – Russia – China – North Korea), openly or covertly.

Nothing but an attempt to liberate the Palestinian territories from colonizers and settlers who came from various countries who have nothing to do with the land to offset the Palestinian demographic factor. He also wants to seize all Palestinian lands by force. By circumventing the law, and with judicial collusion through farcical Israeli trials, it gives every right to the Israeli, and even forces the holder of the inherent right, the “Palestinian,” to demolish his home with his own hands. As well as the forced evacuation of his land. Including Gaza, to seize the newly discovered Palestinian gas in the eastern Mediterranean region, and to transform Gaza into an entertainment city for the Zionists, according to Israeli and Western sources, especially British and American.

Over the past hundred days, during which fierce battles are taking place between the real owners of the land, the Palestinians, and the usurpers and occupiers, mainly the settlers, they have forgotten and neglected the “two-state solution” agreed upon in Oslo, Wadi Araba, and Sharm El-Sheikh, to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

The remarkable and wonderful thing, even according to the testimony of the enemy media themselves (Israel – America – Britain), is that the occupier failed to achieve any of its goals despite all Western support. And a lot of support from some of the countries affiliated with us in the Arab world. Even if it is not actually, but rather through media that could frustrate the unaware Arab viewer by exaggerating the role and power of the entity and its failed allies.

Despite the financial and logistical weakness that has afflicted the West since the 2008 global financial scandal and the emergence of new powers, some of our Arab and Islamic regimes are still betting on the losing horse, America and the West, and they even claim that the new powers, Russia and China, are far from the Arab scene.

The same point that I answered through one of the famous Egyptian programs on Egyptian state television a month and a half ago and with the moderator of the interview, Dr. Hayat Abdoun – when she asked me the same question: Where are China and Russia in the scene of Gaza?

I told her that just because they are not present in the picture does not mean that they do not support the Palestinian cause, and they may support them through a legal representative for them, such as “Iran,” for example, which was included in the BRICS Plus coalition this month, and has also become an active member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization since Summer 2022.

Likewise, with my explanation of the role of the Ansarallah group in Yemen regarding the Palestinian issue and its control of the most important international trade corridors, the Bab al-Mandab Strait. And it alone cannot do everything it does of chasing any ships that go to the ports of the Zionist entity through the Red Sea without prior coordination with the three aforementioned countries.

Also, there is a war between two global trade initiatives, the Chinese (the Belt and Road Initiative) and the realistic one, which includes countries such as Egypt, Iran, Pakistan and other important countries. An initiative that America tried to think about, which is the “Indo-Pacific Initiative,” which includes India, Japan, and Australia, is unrealistic and will not succeed because it has no realistic basis at the present time and in the future.

In conclusion, the ongoing war will change the strategic map of the world, as the American and Anglo-Saxon empire will fall, as will the concept of leadership that the Arab peoples have. There will be a distinction between those who defend the cause realistically and provide relief to the Palestinian people. Without failed equations involving warring between factions (Fatah and Hamas), or sects (Sunnis and Shiites), as one of the advantages of this war was the end of this tribal and sectarian tone among the majority of Arab and Islamic peoples.

The land and leadership will become for those who defend it and paid the blood tax for it, and those who contributed to the defense and support of our people in Gaza in deed and blood. The Arabs had to study the Hezbollah model in Lebanon in the abstract, and not look at it all the time as a tool of Iran, and how it was able to liberate its land and defeat the Zionist entity in 2006 according to the Winograd report.

After that, a new equation was imposed on the Zionist entity in 2024, when it opened its front from southern Lebanon to northern occupied Palestine. How did it accomplish the displacement of the settlers from the north, paralyzing the enemy’s movement, and striking all of its reconnaissance units over the course of 100 days? This made Mr. Hassan Nasrallah speak with confidence yesterday, confronting the Americans and the French about a new, realistic equation: either stopping the war on Gaza or continuing and a major defeat that will inevitably befall Israel.

The same applies to the Ansarallah group in Yemen specifically, which demonstrated strength, bravery, boldness and faith in obstructing the maritime navigation of Israeli ships or those heading to the ports there. How, after eight years of exposure to AlHazm Storm, was it able to become dozens of times stronger than the first time? Is Yemen really an easy country for the Americans, as some Americanized Arab generals thought? Or did Al-Houthi also learn from Hezbollah tunnel warfare and prepare for major confrontations, and has a large stockpiles of weapons?

Unfortunately, if we were in Arab countries characterized by rationality and non-dependency, we would be proud of “Hamas, Al-Qassam in Gaza, Hezbollah, and Ansar Allah” thanks to their extreme force, which can be a weapon on the necks of enemies and stand guard against them. But the personal interests of some within the Arab regimes are still trying to accuse these forces of being agents, unfortunately, in order to hide their weakness by abandoning the defense of our brothers in religion, neighborhood, and humanity, I mean inside (occupied Palestine).

The closest evidence of this is that despite the presence of senior jurists, judiciaries, and human rights activitis in the Arab and Islamic world, especially in Egypt, we find that the children and grandchildren of Mandela (one of the followers of leader Abdel Nasser) in the dear country of South Africa are the ones who filed the criminal case against the Zionist entity in The International Court of Justice in The Hague in the Netherlands, whose sessions are taking place these days with great success.

Some likened this incident to what happened to the pioneer muslims followers of our Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the beginning of his mission. When the abuse from family and neighbors in Mecca intensified, he asked them to go to Abyssinia because it had a just Christian king (Al-Najashi), as if history was repeating itself.

The question here is: Do the Arab regimes still have leadership, or have they wasted the golden opportunity to defend Palestine, and did the Arab regimes think about the next day of the victory of the resistance? Contrary to what they expected, after 100 days of disappointment befell the occupation army.

Here, I keep repeating that we need a leader like Abdel Nasser once again who has the ability to take Arabs and Muslims into the future with the mechanisms of the current era. The Arabs will have a role in creating the new world order with the new powers. With the necessity of opening the door to greater cooperation and partnership with these new powers from the South and East, who are similar to us. And that we should have a degree of mutual trust in each other.
