The Russian Ambassador to Egypt, Georgiy Borisenko, extended heartfelt congratulations to the Russian community residing in Egypt and to Egyptian friends on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory over Nazi Germany.
In his statement, Ambassador Borisenko emphasized the historical significance of May 9, 1945, noting that the defeat of Nazism laid the foundation for the current global order. He highlighted that the Soviet Union bore the brunt of the war effort, with over 27 million lives lost in the struggle to secure a brighter future for humanity.
He described Victory Day as a sacred occasion in Russia, with every family taking pride in the sacrifices of their ancestors. He also praised the Russian community in Egypt for keeping these traditions alive, making the annual Victory Day celebrations on Egyptian soil a meaningful and cherished event.
The ambassador recalled Egypt’s own historic role during World War II, particularly the pivotal Battle of El Alamein in 1942, where Allied forces, including Soviet partners, helped halt Axis advancement in Africa—a turning point in the liberation of the continent.
Ambassador Borisenko concluded by wishing everyone a joyful Victory Day and stressed the importance of honoring the memory of those who contributed to the victory and ensuring that the rise of fascism or any form of domination is never repeated
