ON August 31, 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution initiated by the Republic of Tajikistan to officially designate August 31 as the International Day of Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence, beginning in 2027.
This milestone continues Tajikistan’s consistent policy and reflects the forward-looking initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity—Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, toward the responsible development and ethical deployment of modern technology.
The choice of August 31 carries deep historical resonance: on this date in 1955, the seminal proposal for the Dartmouth Artificial Intelligence Research Project was submitted, marking one of the foundational moments in AI history.
Establishing this global day creates a vital platform to foster international cooperation, exchange knowledge, and advance the safe, human-centered evolution of artificial intelligence. It stands as a significant contribution by Tajikistan to the global tech agenda, highlighting the nation’s active role in harnessing modern innovation for sustainable development and the shared benefit of humanity.
