The Egyptian ambassador to Japan Ayman Kamel discussed on Thursday with the Mayor of Kitami the signing of a twinship agreement between Minya governorate and Kitami city.

The Japanese city of Kitami has undertaken a number of voluntary activities in Minya, Upper Egypt, in addition to a number of other cultural activities, including holding a Japanese cultural festival in Minya Cultural Palace in 2008.

The meeting is part of efforts exerted by the Egyptian embassy in Tokyo to further cooperation between Egyptian and Japanese cities. During their meeting, amb. Kamel invited the Mayor of Kitami to visit Minya Governorate in the near future to learn about its tourism potentials and explore possible cooperation opportunities between the two sides.

Kamel also proposed to establish an Egyptian-Japanese friendship community, under the auspices of the Culture Minister, in the presence of the mayor of Kitami. He also discussed the proposal to establish an Asian Study Center at Minya University and sign a joint student swap program and an agreement on co-operation on water resources conservation and protection against natural disasters associated with floods.

In the same context, amb. Kamel visited the Cultural Center in Kitami and delivered a speech highlighting the most important investment, tourism and trade opportunities in Egypt. A number of the city’s school students were honored by him during his visit and were given certificates of appreciation for their contribution to presenting an artwork about Egypt last year.
