Compared to May of 2021, Saudi ports recorded an increase in the volume of container handling by 1.38%, reaching 600,107 containers during the month of May 2022.

The number of exported containers achieved a noticeable increase by 2.57%, with a total of 175,958 containers, while the number of incoming containers witnessed a slight decrease of 0.64%, recording 176,978 containers.

The initiatives launched by the General Authority of Ports “Mawani” within the framework of the national strategy for transport and logistics have prompted the provision of competitive services in operation and handling; The number of transshipment containers in Saudi ports increased to 247,172 containers, an increase of 2.01% compared to the same period last year.

For its part, the total volume of handled cargo reached 21,041,021 tons, an increase of 23.70%. General cargo witnessed a remarkable increase of 21.86% to reach 810,244 tons. The volume of solid cargo increased by 2.46%, with a total of 4,166,749 tons. Liquid cargo also increased by 30.74%. 15,869,634 tons compared to May 2021, as a result of regulating truck flow procedures to and from Saudi ports and the importance that the authority attaches to enabling various vital sectors and national industries in the Kingdom.

The number of ships recorded 1,020 ships, an increase of 3.03%, and the total number of vehicles reached 81,737 vehicles, an increase of 42.33%, while the total tons of foodstuffs decreased by 6.50% to reach 1,825,579 tons compared to last May.

During the month of May 2022, Saudi ports received 54,907 passengers, an increase of 16.38%, and unloaded 459,677 imported livestock, an increase of 181.64%, which enhances the import and export system and stimulates national economic growth.
