The Korean International Cooperation Agency (ICA) organized “Yalla Together/ Let’s be together” event, which is part of the cooperative activity that was held in Luxor for a period of three days from the 22nd to the 24th in cooperation with the Egoth Institute (the Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotels in Luxor), the Armed Forces Language Institute and Aswan University.

The event was led by three KOICA volunteers to teach the Korean language working in the aforementioned institutions. The event aims to provide an opportunity for thirty Egyptian students who learn the Korean language in these institutions to practice tourist guidance and exchange knowledge and experiences through various activities.

Where the students traveled from Cairo and Aswan and gathered in Luxor for three days to tour the city of Luxor and visit the Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, Hatshepsut Temple and other tourist places in Luxor, then they made presentations and collected notes to evaluate their skills in the Korean language under the supervision of a professional tour guide who speaks the Korean language .

Asmaa, a fourth-grade student, expressed her happiness at participating in this event, as she used to receive lectures from KOICA volunteers remotely, and she was not able to participate in such activities during the Corona crisis, and added that it is a wonderful opportunity to improve the Korean language and think about working in the field of tourist guides.

She added that this visit is the first visit to the city of Luxor for the majority of students, and therefore they studied the archaeological sites in Luxor before the visit. She also added that this event is a great opportunity to help the students in a practical way, as she saw the students, while they were receiving a lecture by an experienced tour guide, being bombarded with questions related to working in the field of tourist guidance.

For her part, the Regional Director of the KOICA Egypt Office, Ms. Kim Jin Young, said that providing more opportunities to teach the Korean language to students whose access is relatively limited is meaningful. She also added that she expects more students to receive systematic education based on the outcome of this event and the performance and development of the unit. Practical education for each institution. Mrs. Kim also confirmed that KOICA will continue to provide support to the institutions.

KOICA is the Korea International Cooperation Agency and is a Korean government agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dedicated to implementing grant programs aimed at combating poverty and supporting sustainable social and economic growth in developing countries around the world.

Starting from January 2023, KOICA sent 10 volunteers to work as Korean language teachers in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. It is expected that more volunteers will be sent to volunteer in various fields, including youth activities, people with special needs, computer education, etc. KOICA volunteers will continue to provide technical cooperation to Egyptian youth to contribute to the development and prosperity of Egypt.
