Ambassador Hisham Badr, the national coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects (NISGP) and head of the organizing committee, announced to “www. aldiplomasy.com” that he will meet Cairo Governor Major General Khaled Abdel Aal next Wednesday to launch and promote the initiative, which is the first experience of its kind in the history of Egypt to encourage investors to invest in this field.

Recently, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Ambassador Hisham Badr, met with the Ministers of Youth and Higher Education to seek the assistance of youth in activating the initiative. Badr added that a meeting will soon be held between the Ministries of Planning and Local Development and the governors to advance and promote the initiative in its second phase.

He explained that the continuation of the initiative for the second session in itself is a positive sign of the importance of this initiative, as it is one of the most important outcomes and recommendations of the COP 27 Climate Conference and there is international interest in it, indicating that at the end of that session, the winning projects will be represented at the COP 28 Climate Conference, which will be held in United Arab Emirates.

He added that this initiative contributed to building trained cadres on how to evaluate projects, as more than 6,200 projects from various governorates participated in the first phase, and 18 projects were selected. The Ministry of Planning also held training courses via video conference to explain the criteria for evaluating projects submitted in the initiative and how to write applications for candidacy. This is for members of the executive committees concerned with the governorates.

Badr indicated that it was agreed with the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises Development Authority to participate in the activities of the second round of the initiative, and to provide the necessary support to raise awareness of the initiative, its categories and objectives. In addition to technical support for the various projects participating in the initiative from different governorates.

Ambassador Hisham Badr emphasized that the initiative provides a pioneering model linking climate action investments with energy, protecting sectors vulnerable to harmful impacts, localizing sustainable development, digital transformation, providing job opportunities and combating poverty.

To find smart solutions to society’s problems using clean technology, and to find solutions to the challenges of climate and environmental change to create a state of awareness and national solidarity to reduce the effects of climate change and deal with its effects.

Badr drew attention to the fact that the initiative targets many areas, on top of which are projects that take into account environmental sustainability standards, which lead to reducing carbon emissions and pollution, preserving natural resources, in addition to projects that enhance energy and resource efficiency, and projects that preserve biodiversity and system services. environment that helps adapt to changes. the climate.

The initiative includes 6 categories: large, medium and small local projects (especially related to the decent life initiative), in addition to projects submitted by startups, development projects related to women, climate change, sustainability, and non-profit community initiatives. and posts.

This initiative comes under the auspices of the President of the Republic and within the framework of the Prime Minister’s Decree No. 2738 of 2022 regarding the launch of the initiative, which comes within the framework of Egypt’s pioneering role in the field of sustainable development to localize it at the governorate level.

The initiative was launched by Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, United Nations Special Envoy for Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Chair of the Jury at the National Level for Smart Green.
