Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia aims to donate RM100 million to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

He said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when introducing Malaysia’s 2024 civilian budget, declared Malaysia’s commitment to the Palestinian cause by donating RM10 million.

“Our target is RM100 million, the largest donation in the country’s history, to support the people of Palestine,” he said in his opening remarks at the launch of the 2023 World First Remembrance Programme at Putra Mosque.

Recent clashes in Palestine between Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza, and the Israeli regime have resulted in hundreds of deaths on both sides since 7 October 2023.

According to Malaymail, Ahmad Zahid said on 9 October 2023 that Malaysia had urged the UN Security Council to take immediate action by directing all parties to stop the ongoing violence and war in Gaza.

Ahmad Zahid said Malaysia’s Muslim community needed to put aside its political ideology and unite in support of the Palestinian people.

The Deputy Prime Minister also commended the MPs for not opposing or boycotting the statement read on behalf of Malaysia at Diwan Rakyat on 9 October, on support for the Palestinian people.
