Venezuelan President: What’s happening in Gaza is a systematic plan to erase a people; international justice has been hijacked
Caracas – July 14, 2025 _ Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has called for a major global summit for peace and anti-war efforts aimed at halting what he described as an ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people. He also urged the international community to denuclearize Israel and compel it to submit to international law.
In an official message issued on the occasion of the emergency ministerial meeting of the Hague Group—convened by Colombia and South Africa—Maduro expressed strong support for the initiative, calling it an essential moral and political step at a time when humanity faces the alarming challenge of impunity for mass atrocities.
Maduro asserted that the events unfolding in Gaza and other parts of Palestine are not a conflict between equals, but rather a deliberate and systematic plan to annihilate a people and erase their identity and historical memory. He emphasized that the Palestinian tragedy did not begin recently but dates back to 1948, with the onset of occupation and the forced displacement of Palestinians from their land, followed by decades of repression and siege.
The Venezuelan president sharply criticized international institutions such as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing them of acting with disgraceful slowness and compromising their neutrality. He alleged that these bodies have become tools of pressure against weaker nations, while powerful states committing grave human rights violations enjoy virtual immunity.
Maduro reaffirmed that there can be no just solution without the immediate end of the Israeli occupation, the dismantling of the apartheid system, and full reparations for the damage inflicted upon the Palestinian people. He reiterated his support for the establishment of a fully sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
He also voiced support for UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, whose recent report on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories he described as courageous and truthful. Maduro condemned the threats and smear campaigns targeting her and called on the international community to stand by her in defense of justice and human dignity.
Concluding his statement, Maduro stressed that the Palestinian cause is not a regional or religious issue but rather the central moral struggle of our time. He warned that remaining silent in the face of genocide is a betrayal of the spirit of liberation and dignity upheld by peoples across the world.
He reaffirmed Venezuela’s unwavering solidarity with Palestine, declaring that the country will continue to stand by the Palestinian people until justice and peace are achieved.
